January 8, 2018: Gauchos and Horses

As with North America’s west, horses and horse-back riding are very much part of the culture in Patagonia.  While visiting Torres del Paine National Park, I was surprised at the large stable of horses at our hotel (Hotel Las Torres), which one can rent for trail rides.

Horses are allowed to free range graze when off duty during the day, but at dusk the gauchos round them up and guide them towards their corrals.
