JetBlue extends its move into premium market

JetBlue is taking advantage of United Airlines' planned departure from JFK by increasing its business-class service from JFK to California.

 

JetBlue, which made its reputation as a traveler-friendly one-class airline with great inflight entertainment and lots of blue corn chips has been making moves lately to attract more business travelers, including creating its "Mint" premium-class section.

Starting in October, the month United shifts its flights to Newark Liberty, JetBlue will add two San Francisco flights with Mint, up from four. When the airline gets its new A321s in January, it will add up to ten flights a day to Los Angeles.

 

The New York-California routes are among the most competitive for the airlines, and with price competition hot, they feel it's important to be able to grab more of the market segment willing to spend extra on luxury, including lie-flat seats. American, Delta and JetBlue have all recently upgraded those service.
