July 17, 2016 near Rochester NY

On a drive through western New York we chanced upon this abandoned house. We were intrigued by the large hedges growing in front. We stopped to take some photos, and while we were on the lawn the owner and his daughter came out. The daughter described growing in the house, and the owner gave us some history. He said that the house was built in late 1800’s by a local loan shark. His family bought the house in the 1950’s and lived in it. As the house fell in to disrepair, it became cheaper to build a new house next door instead of fixing it up. Eventually they let the hedges grow to help keep out trespassers.

All in all we thought that this would be a great house to write a story about.

Great photos and great house! I love stopping at abandoned old houses! Fun that you heard a little about the history.
