Life without gravity: Zero-G thrill rides

If you've ever wanted to feel like flying in space without having to be an astronaut, your chance has come. A company called Zero Gravity Corp. is offering gut-wrenching rides on a plane that is the only one in the U.S. certified for the tricky maneuvers that create zero gravity onboard.

The plane will be visiting a dozen U.S. cities over the next few months, offering rides for prices starting at $5400 including breakfast and professional photos. The breakfast is included because the company advises against eating the wrong food before the trip; customers get a bagel and are advised to avoid greasy food for a while before the flight.

The zero gravity is created by a complicated series of maneuvers that loop the plane through a series of parabolas and other shapes at different angles that let riders experience not only zero gravity but moon gravity (one sixth of Earth's) or Martian gravity (one third). Passengers get about 7 to 8 minutes of weightlessness; if you want more, $165,000 buys you a private charter.

This year's schedule includes visits to Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Houston; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; New England; New York; Orlando, Florida; San Francisco; Seattle and Washington, D.C.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
