London's Underground system carried over 4,735,000 people on Friday, Oct. 9th, a record count for the 152-year-old subway system. That was up a tick from the previous record, set on Friday, Nov. 28 in 2014.
The last week of October set a record also, for busiest week in London's history. The suste, expects to continue to set records as London's population and economy continue to grow. Nick Brown, managing director of the Underground, told The Telegraph (UK) that because of that, all income is being invested in modernization and upgrades.
Among plans to relieve congestion and delays is the London Crossrail project, which includes 89 miles of new lines running east to west through and under London, including 13 miles of new tunnel. For more on that, follow the link in the Gumbo discussion on Wonders of the Modern World.
