Lost 'Art Amusement Park' heads to NYC

Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, a revival of an unusual art project that disappeared into storage for over three decades, will open in New York in November after a run in Los Angeles.

Featuring a colorful fun house of carnival rides and attractions by some of  the 20th century's most celebrated and innovative artists, Luna Luna features a Ferris wheel by Jean-Michel Basquiat, a carousel by Keith Haring, a wave swinger by Kenny Scharf, a wedding chapel by André Heller, immersive pavilions by David Hockney, Salvador Dalí and Roy Lichtenstein alongside additional pieces from Arik Brauer, Sonia Delaunay, Monika Gil'sing, and more.

It originally debuted in Hamburg in 1987, and there were plans for a world tour, but instead the pieces ended up in storage containers in Texas for more than thirty years. They were located by entrepreneur Michael Goldberg and purchased sight unseen by the musician Drake. They spent the past two years preparing for a second attempt at a world tour.

The New York venue will be The Shed, an arts space at the city's Hudson Yards complex. Tickets will go on sale September 19, for dates from November 20 to January 5.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
