Puma, Belize Zoo

Like many people, I really enjoy watching big cats.

The Puma (or cougar) is one of the most widespread animals in the Americas, ranging from Alaska to Patagonia.  But it is shy and I know many outdoor people (guides, hunters) who have never seen one in the wilderness.  I myself have never spotted one except in zoos.

This particular cat was very relaxed, resting in the shade of its enclosure at the Belize Zoo.  The zoo is home to almost 50 species of animals, all native to the country.  The enclosures, as you can see, provide a natural environment for the animals and are spacious.  It was one of my favorite spots in Belize.
