I strolled into the Pettah neighborhood of Colombo from the adjoining Fort district, heading east. My ultimate destination was the Pettah market, but as I usually do I rambled around the streets and lanes taking in the sights of this distinctly non-tourist oriented neighborhood.
Among the sights I don’t see everyday was a young men’s Buddhist Association (like the YMCA, but Sri Lanka is predominantly Buddhist)….
A rather pretty colonial era clock tower….
Assorted shops and storefronts…
Even an old museum set in a building from the era of Dutch colonial occupation….
And an unusual piece of street art that might have been sponsored by AT&T, the symbolism of which eludes me (see also image at top of post)…
