As every Harry Potter fan knows, the way to the Hogwarts Express is through the brick wall at Platform 9¾ at Kings Cross station in London, though few probably think of it as the busy and thoroughly modern concourse seen below.
When we visited last summer in London, Platform 9¾ was very high on our granddaughter's list, and so we went. And stood in line behind dozens of others waiting for the thrill. Even my wife got into the spirit and had a run at it.
A corps of young and pleasant staff members were on hand with scarves for every Hogwarts house, and helped create the illusion of running through the wall by (off-camera) holding the scarf out in the wind. And what's that next door to the scene? Why the Harry Potter souvenir shop, of course!
