Margaritaville sets sail

Jimmy Buffett, who turned a light-hearted 1977 drinking song into a theme and a hotel, resort and restaurant empire, is now fronting a cruise ship that will take Margaritaville-themed cruises between Florida and the Bahamas.

Margarataville at Sea, its brand name, is giving a multi-million-dollar re-do to the former Grand Classica that will sail as Margaritaville Paradise. Originally built in 1991 for Carnival's Costa Cruises division, it was sold in 2018 to Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, which is a partner with Buffett's company.

“To me, the only thing better than being on a beach by the ocean, is to be on the ocean. Now you can follow in our wake,” Buffett said in a statement accompanying the announcement. Among the places for cruisers to be are cabins, restaurants and bars whose theme will be familiar to Margaritaville regulars, including the '5 O'Clock Somewhere' bar seen in the image above.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
