One of the many great experiences of staying in Colombo's Galle Face Hotel is being (admittedly an indirect) witness to a large number of weddings. The hotel is a popular site of weddings and receptions, and for a long time the revenue from these nuptial ceremonies helped kept the hotel afloat during the difficult Civil War years.
During my recent visit to Colombo I came upon two weddings the weekend I was there. While the couples were going about their business, I snapped these images for our TravelGumbo audience. The couples had chosen very different wardrobes, one going with traditional Sri Lankan dress, the other with modern Western-style garb.
Such wonderful young people, full of joy and optimism! I wish them well.
