May 31, 2017: Blue Herons on the Erie Canal

On a recent drive across the state of New York I encountered several Blue Herons. Here are two of them that stayed still long enough for me to a get a picture. The one above was standing along the the canal as it poured into Oneida Lake in Sylvan Beach NY.

This is Henry, who hangs out at LOCK 25 in the middle of the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. He spends a lot of time sitting on the lock door, looking for fish. But when a boat came through the lock, he was not happy that he had to move.
