Add Montreal to the list of cities with great tourism years in 2015, and the official tourism office expects even more to come as the city moves toward three major milestones for 2017: 375 years as a city, 150 years of Canadian confederation, and the 50th anniversary of Expo67.
The city had an overall increase of 3.2% in tourism last year, with a 7.2% increase in international visits. Visits from the U.S. were up 9.5%. Cruise ship arrivals were up by 30%, and the city's airport passed 15 million passengers for the first time.
Tourism officials are predicting a 6% overall increase for each of the next two years to Canada's second-largest city and its largest French-speaking one. In fact, Montreal is the 4th-largest French-speaking city in the world. (If you're curious about the top 22, click HERE)
