MSC jumps into luxury cruises

MSC Cruises, which has been making headlines with huge new ships such as MSC Meraviglia, has just ordered four new luxury cruisers that might look like toy versions.

The four new ships, with 500 cabins, or 1000 passengers, each, are a fifth the size of MSC Meraviglia, and the next two ships coming on line, Grandiosa and Bellissima will have room for 6300 and 4300 passengers respectively. The smaller ships are in a size range similar to Viking Ocean Cruises highly-successful 930-passenger ships.

The new small ships are being built by Fincantieri in Italy; the first is due to sail in 2023. They're said to have the latest environmentally-friendly alternatives as well as other cutting-edge technology. The luxury service level will mirror MSC's luxury 'ship within a ship' luxury upgrades on its other ships, where it goes under the name of 'MSC Yacht Club.'

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
