N. Ireland ‘Game of Thrones’ tapestry on display

Tourism Ireland has followed the path of other Game of Thrones filming sites, using the TV series to build visitor interest—but they’ve found an unusual way to do it, with a 77-meter-long tapestry commemorating events in the series.

There’s a history to that, too: Its tracing of events and characters is more or less what the famed Bayeux tapestry did for the Norman conquest of England.

The Irish tapestry, on display in the Ulster Museum in Belfast starting tomorrow, follows the series from Season 1 through Season 6. Season 7 is there as well, but hidden from the public. As the episodes of the series appear on TV, the museum will reveal the matching sections of the tapestry.

To learn more about the tapestry, fans can visit Tourism Ireland’s website, Ireland.com. The site contains itineraries for Game of Thrones trips, and will include an app that will allow followers to zoom in and explore details of the tapestry in full,
