The Modern Contemporary Museum, which goes by Moco, is opening a new site this week in Barcelona, following the model of its original museum in Amsterdam, open since 2016.
Like the original, it will focus on both the works of renowned and established artists and 'rising stars.' It sees itself as an 'entry point into the world of art' for a mostly younger audience. The museum has renovated a former private residence, the Palacio Cervello.
Established artists represented include such names as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, Salvador Dalí, Damien Hirst, Keith Haring, KAWS, Hayden Kays, Yayoi Kusama, David LaChapelle, and Takashi Murakami. New work includes a special exhibition, Splendor of the Night, the first solo show in Europe for Guillermo Lorca, a Chilean artist.
The space also includes TeamLab, for creating 'Digital Immersive Art' and what it calls "Europe's first dedicated exhibition space to the NFT phenomenon.
