New Olympic contender? Snow volleyball's making a play

Whether you've thought of volleyball as a great family game, or been glued to the tube for beach volleyball, you probably didn't see this one coming: Snow Volleyball.

At its meeting in Rio during the Olympics, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) has approved a plan to expand and promote Snow Volleyball world-wide. Can a bid for the Olympics be far behind? Obviously with thicker clothing...

Snow volleyball first got big notice in 2008 in Wagrain, Austria, and got official recognition by the Austrian Volleyball Association in 2011. This year, the European Volleyball Federation organized the first all-European tour.

FIVB President Ary Graça says “Snow volleyball is an exciting variation of the sport which is rapidly attracting the attention of athletes, fans and sponsors alike and reinforces the global appeal of volleyball as a universally accessible sport that can be played in both summer and winter environments."

We say, "Good! Another excuse to go somewhere!"

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
