New Zealand adds an ultra-long-haul to NYC

With international travel reviving, airlines are adding or reviving some of their super-long flights, including Air New Zealand’s new 17+-hour flight from Auckland to New York, which will debut in September as one of the four longest.

The flight crosses so many timezones and the international dateline that it appears to twist time. Passengers leaving New York will fly the 17+ hours and arrive in Auckland two days later. On the return trip, the plane leaves Auckland at 7:40 pm and arrives in New York at 7:55 pm the same day.

Currently, the airline serves the route via a flight to Los Angeles with domestic connections to New York via United or Alaska. The non-stop will use a 787-9 specially configured for more premium seats.
