Orlando is about to get yet another blockbuster theme park, this one based on Nintendo games characters, headlined by Super Mario. It's one of four parks being opened in a collaboration between Universal Studios and Nintendo.
The Orlando park will be the fourth major park at the Universal Studios complex in Florida, and will open in 2023, joining an area that is nearly swamped in theme-and-character parks including the Disney complex with its new Star Wars attractions and Universal's own Harry Potter operation.
The addition of the 14,000-employee park on a site a few miles from the current Universal Orlando is part of a plan to nearly double the size of Universal's operation there.
The first Nintendo-themed park will open in Osaka, Japan this year, in time for the Olympics. Others will be built in California and Singapore.
