Norwegian Cruise Line is set to make life easier for solo passengers on its 19 cruise ships, by more than doubling the number of single-berth cabins available and offering better views for them.
The past few years have seen more and more single travelers on cruises, but there are few single cabins; more often the solo traveler ends up paying a supplement on a cabin meant for a couple. Recent reports, though, say that as much as 18% of the bookings are for solo travelers.
Norwegian was among the first to create any solo cabins—it calls them 'studio cabins'—adding a few to Norwegian Epic in 2010. But up to now, the studio cabins have been tiny inside cabins with no ocean view. Norwegian says that as renovations take place, including converting some smaller doubles into singles, there will be ocean-view and balcony cabins as well.
