Venice, which worries about overtourism and quality of life issues to the point of fining offenders of dozens of rules now has a new one to worry about: canal surfing.
The city, which has previously find visitors for making coffee on the Rialto Bridge, swimming in the canals and eating lunch on the steps of monuments can now add a new one, after two German tourists were apprehended and fined for using power surfboards (did you know they existed?) in the Grand Canal.
They were fined £1500 each and had their devices confiscated. They were caught after the Mayor posted a video of the pair and asked for help in locating "two overbearing imbeciles who are making a mockery of the city." He promised dinner as a reward.
