Oct. 17, 2016: Santa Monica Pier, CA

One of the most famous spots in California is the Santa Monica Pier and its iconic sign. It’s been seen on countless movies and TV shows.

Having been raised in Santa Monica, I’m asked quite a bit about the pier. Although I love California piers, the one in Santa Monica is not on my list of favorites. It’s not very good for fishing and the amusement park rides and restaurants that are there now don’t entice me to try them.

The pier has changed a lot since I grew up.  It is definitely a lot more crowded now and they have added restaurants and rides. And the seedy side to the pier  looks likes it’s gone.

Santa Monica Pier is still well worth going to though because of its view of Santa Monica Bay and of Palisades Park, my favorite part of the city. The park is located along Ocean Ave. on top of the coastal bluffs. It is lined with palm and other trees, plants and grass. I especially like the northern end of the park and it’s  really a wonderful place to take in the sunset.
