Ohio tourism officials are pointing to a wide variety of anniversaries and special events in their campaign for more visitors this year, with items spread across the state, promoted under the slogan "Find It Here."
Among the items listed by TourismOhio are 150th anniversary of the Cincinnati Reds, oldest team in baseball, with special events on May 4, the anniversary and July 5, the 90th All-Star game. There will also be a number of events celebrating Ohio native-son Neil Armstrong's moonwalk 50 years ago, at a number of museums including, of course, the Armstrong Air & Space Museum.
Two of Ohio's art museums are having centennials this year including the Dayton Art Institute, and the Butler Institute of Art, the first museum dedicated to works by American artists.
Outdoors, two major parks are getting new visitor centers, one at Hocking Hills State Park and the other at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Meanwhile, the Akron Zoo is in the midst of a major expansion that will add new theme areas for African and Asian animals.
