Oklahoma State Capitol, Oklahoma City

We visited the Oklahoma State Capitol building on a weekend day.  The good news was that was no one about.  The bad news was that the building was locked and all we could do was explore its grounds a little.

The state's first capitol building was in Guthrie.  A little more than a century ago the capitol was moved to Oklahoma City.  This impressive building was completed in 1917, although its dome was not installed until 2002.  It was built of limestone and local pink granite.

There were a few pieces of art outside the capitol building which caught my eye.  The above statue was crafted by an Apache artist and features a native woman.  It was installed in 1989.

The cowboy below captures the energy and spirit of the west.
