Original VW Bugs in Mérida, Mexico

I have a particular love for the original VW Beetle. It was the first car I remember my parents owning. Our bug was orange. I remember it well, especially the day that it died, while we were driving along the Taconic State Parkway in NY. We pulled off the road, and while my father went for help, my brother and I played in the grass and under the trees along the road.

In New York City, you don't see too many original Beetles. The rough roads and winter salt have done them in. I have seen some on my trips to the southwest, but most of those have been modified.

On a recent trip to Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico, I found that like many older Americans, these classic cars had migrated to a place of warmth. The city is full of Bugs, and I couldn't come close to capturing them all. Here are some of the ones I was able to get pictures of.
