Fans of Airbnb and fans of the famed DC-3 have a new opportunity to appreciate both at a 1941 plane turned into an Airbnb in the trees on a Wisconsin lakeside. It rents for $349 a night.
Originally a military C-47 flying supply routes in the Pacific during World War II, it later had a long civilian career before coming into the hands of Joe Draeger, who owns two other unusual Airbnbs: a former barn that caters to large groups and a treehouse that he says is “really more of a cabin on stilts.”
Draeger bought the plane that creates ‘modern’ DC-3s with turboprop engines using parts from several older planes for each one. The Airbnb DC-3 wasn’t usable for that, but suited Draeger’s needs. The cockpit was gone, but he was able to create a facsimile from parts to allow guests to ‘take the wheel.’
