Paris has a €300 million plan to shorten Eiffel lines

Those long, long lines—like the ones above—will hopefully become a thing of the past over the next few years if the city adopts Mayor Anne Hidalgo’s €300 million upgrade plans.

The money is slated for creation of welcome areas to relieve the crowds, and removal of bottlenecks at the upper levels. Some of the  work will include renovating or replacing some of the elevators. As well, there’s money for repainting some areas, and upgrading the light show the tower provides at night.

The city hopes to complete the major part of the upgrades in time for the 2024 Olympics, for which Paris is a candidate, and a World Expo in 2025. The money is not all new: part of the €20 million each year would be the €13.7 million a yer the city already spends.
