My wife spent a good portion of the summer working on new gardens around our home, including several bird feeders. We've managed to attract a variety of birdlife, the most interesting being a pair of pileated woodpeckers.
They are mostly black birds, with red and white stripes. Pileated woodpeckers are large, up to 20 inches tall and with a wingspan of up to 30 inches.
The pileateds normally eat a lot of insects, but they have developed a taste for the suet blocks my wife puts out. This is what they come back for day after day...
