Porter Airlines adds planes and partners

Canada's upstart Porter Airlines, which not long ago operated only a fleet of 78-passenger turboprops, has plunged even further into its jet expansion with an increased order for new jets and a booking partnership with Alaska Airlines.

Porter announced late last month that it was adding another 25 Embraer jets to the 50 on order; it still has rights to add another 25. As well, it has now announced a deal that makes it Alaska's 30th airline partner, with passengers on each airline able to book many itineraries that include flights on the other. By late next year, the two will set up reciprocal mileage-earning and redemption.

The airline, whose main base has been at Toronto's Billy Bishop Airport took the plunge in 2021 with its first order for Embraer E195-E2 jets that take 132 passengers, and began extending its network further west and to more vacation destinations to the south and to Mexico.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
