Delivery workers for food-order services such as Uber Eats, Glovo and Bolt have called for a six-hour strike through dinnertime on March 22, demanding better working conditions and better pay.
The protest, organized through groups on WhatsApp, will mean no deliveries between 6 pm and midnight. One of the organizers told reporters “The intention is not to create confusion, nor harm anyone, we just want to be able to have a voice.”
The groups, which reportedly include over a thousand workers, complain that they have to work as much as 16 hours a day to make a living wage, and that the companies don’t provide the needed backpacks and bad-weather clothing.
Among the demands circulating are a minimum payment of €3 per delivery, and an additional 50c per kilometer for distances over 2 kilometers and €1 per kilometer for trips over 5km. Another issue is double and triple orders, in which the courier has to stop and collect at two or three different places to round up a customer’s order. The demand is to be paid extra for double orders and for triple orders to be banned.
