LaGuardia Airport's 'tempest in a beer stein' may be over, with the authority that operates New York's airports ordering concession operator OTG to reimburse drinkers who paid the hefty price for a fairly ordinary beer.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey caps prices at airport concessions at no more than 10% above 'street prices' in the surrounding area, but OTG, according to a PA audit triggered by wide publicity over the high-priced brew, not only inflated the base price but also added "an erroneously-added surcharge."
Vendors have been given an updated guide for price-setting and other operations, and OTG says it has contacted customer and refunded the overcharges.
