Schoodic Point, Maine

I first visited Acadia National Park was when I was 10 years old. My main memory of that visit is of a “beach” that is made of large broken rocks. I recently visited for the second time in my life, and I discovered that this memory comes from a particular part of the park.

Schoodic Point is a part of Acadia National Park, in Maine, but not part of the main body of Acadia. It sits on a peninsula across Frenchman’s Bat from Mount Desert Island.  It is a 50-mile drive, up and around the bay. In season, there is ferry from Bar Harbor to Winter Harbor, and a free shuttle to Schoodic Point. The granite shelf that makes up the beach at Schoodic Point is amazing, and worth the trip.
