The town of Taormina, Sicily, has taken measures to keep its sidewalk waiters under control after a brawl that involved at least a dozen waiters and other battlers, and forced guests to abandon their meals and flee, as seen in this video.
According to the mayor, the fracas was "probably linked to the desire to attract more customers," with rivals trying to grab customers looking for a place to eat. He shut down the rival restaurants for several days each.
Restaurants in the town center have now been ordered to keep their staffs within their own areas and out of the street, and to put up railings to mark whose space is whose.
