Slovenia’s Top Chefs get Michelin Stars

Slovenia is probably not the first place that comes to mind for haute cuisine, but the small Eastern European country is celebrating six restaurants that just got the country’s first Michelin stars, with one of them getting a two-star rating.

Probably not a surprise to our DrFumblefinger, though, who wrote about in recent blogs about an excellent restaurant he enjoyed there and about Ljubljana’s Central Market with a vast array of produce. The Michelin inspectors cited the nature and quality of local ingredients in Slovenia’s 24 gastronomic regions as part of their ratings.

Slovenia’s tourism board is promoting the news as part of its preparation for Slovenia’s role next year as European Region of Gastronomy, and has opened a new website TasteSlovenia to promote Slovenian food.
