Smithsonian reopens historic D.C. building

The Smithsonian Institution is reopening its historic 1881 Arts and Industries Building, at least for special events. Not the famous “Smithsonian Castle,” but similar in style and almost as old, Arts and Industries closed for renovation in 2004.

 

The building, which is on the mall next to the Castle, has been proposed for a number of roles, including an innovation center, or a museum of Latino culture. As a result of uncertainty, it was not included in the Smithsonian’s $1.5 billion current capital plans. The Washington Post has the whole STORY
