Playing a little with a familiar TravelGumbo tag line, here are a few of the cars I spotted in Bangkok that seem unlikely ever again to be “on the road.”
There are others, spotted here and there about the city, but only the one in the title image is so well-established that Google Maps uses it as a reference point for travelers (“Turn right at the Antique Turtle Car”) walking though the Talat Noi district. As you can see, a Fiat 600 of considerable age.
Only blocks away, a small pickup has established a permanent residence.
Meanwhile, in another neighborhood, someone with minimal skill at sheetmetal work appears to be attempting a wholesale remodel of perhaps a Toyota, perhaps a Nissan, perhaps only a dream.
For anyone intending to get a derelict back on the road, there are plenty of parts available; I encountered quite a few of these salvage piles.
