In 1903, the Sanford Memorial Church opened on the campus of Stanford University. It was commissioned by Jane Stanford in memory of her late husband Leland.

It was one of the first non-denominational churches on the West Coast of the U.S. and to this day, it is the architectural centerpiece of the school.
