Stolen bike recovered, cyclist heads on to 30,000km+ goal

Here’s one for the records in more ways than one. CNN reports that a young Chinese cyclist who had covered nearly 30,000 km in 460 days of cycling all of China’s major provinces, only to have his bike stolen days from the end, has gotten it back and is finishing the tour.

Apparently, when he stopped to look in an electronics market in Shenzhen, he didn’t realize he had parked his bike in an area well-known to cycle thieves. He was so attached to the bike that he turned down offers to buy him a new one, and said he’d continue on foot. However, local police were able to recover it, using security camera footage. It’s believed it was sold at least twice between theft and recovery.

CNN has more DETAILS and a map of his incredible journey.

A very cool story and I liked his photos. I wonder if Wang Pingan ever saw Pee Wee’s Big Adventure?
