Japanese railroads, which have featured quite a few other character-based trains, including some dedicated to Disney characters and one to Hello Kitty has now rolled out a Super Mario train for Nintendo fans.
The heavily-themed train is running on the Osaka Loop and Sakurajima lines, which are the closest to the Universal City Station which serves Universal Studios Japan which was supposed to have opened a new Super Nintendo World feature last month
Due to the pandemic, the park has not opened, but railway officials decided not to delay the start for the train. A spokesperson for rail operator JR West said in a statement that “We have come to this decision in the hope of giving everyone something to smile about as we look forward to Super Nintendo World’s opening.”
The train is scheduled as a limited-time promotion, but because of the delay in opening the theme park, the railroad has said only that it will be in operation "for the time being."
