Looking back through my Northern India photos, I am reminded of the beautiful Oberoi Hotels I stayed in. The luxury, five-star hotel group was founded in 1934 by The Rai Bahadur Mohan Singh Oberoi. Today, The Oberoi Group operates 32 hotels, Nile Cruisers, and a Motor Vessel in Kerala's backwaters. The Group operates in seven countries under the luxury 'Oberoi' and five-star 'Trident' brands.
Often accommodations are shuffled to the background because I am reporting on the destination. But, over the next few weeks I would like to share my memories of these beautiful hotels.
The first stop on my photographic hotel tour was the capital Delhi. I stayed at The Oberoi New Delhi. I was greeted first by a liveried doorman and then by a lovely woman who placed a smudge of red vegetable dye on my forehead before presenting me with a lei of marigolds.
The lobby was filled with flowers and fountains. At the far end of the expanse is a grand rendering of the tree of life. My room was also filled with flowers and lovely furnishings. From my window, I could see Dehli in the distance.
Outside I sat by the pool, relaxing after my long journey to this enchanting country. The next day I would explore Dehli, its historical treasures, jammed streets, and mysterious mosques, but for now, I was content to enjoy my surroundings and the care of the Oberoi Hotel staff.
