The shrinking economy class cabin

Do things seem more crowded at the back of the plane where most of us fly?  If yes, there's lots of reason for this.  Airlines are crowding more seats into the economy cabin, reducing seat width and pitch (the space between rows).  Also, airlines like the revenues of business class and the popular lie flat beds on long flights take lots of room, so a number of them are shrinking the size of the economy cabin to expand their business class offering.  That's true even of the most popular carriers like Singapore and Emirates.
