I’ve always had a sweet tooth, so a top-notch candy store is not something I’m likely to pass by. Part of my thinking about sweets is highlighted in the sign below (from the Sweet Palace).
A few weeks ago my wife and I did a short road trip through parts of Idaho and Montana, which included a dip to the small town of Philipsburg. Philipsburg developed around regional mining and timber industries more than a century ago, and many attractive historic buildings still persist. Today the town mines tourists, not ore.
We spent a pleasant few hours strolling around Phillipsburg, including a leisurely stop at the Sweet Palace. There are over a thousand varieties of candies for sale at the Sweet Palace, with well-known brands like Jelly Belly and Double Bubble, but with lots of homemade treats such as a large variety of fudge, hand dipped chocolates, and saltwater taffy. Huckleberries are a wild-grown local fruit and the berries are incorporated into a variety of the products with very pleasant results.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll spare you more verbage except to say that I walked away a sizeable bag of sweets and many photos of the Palace.
We passed the fellow below several buildings from the Sweet Palace, but pouring what I believe to be fudge for them.
Need to be sure to make that scenic drive to Philipsburg again sometime next year.
