The Whispering Giant, Winnipeg Beach

This is a finely detailed wood carving created by artist Peter Toth and unveiled in 1991.  The Giant is carved from a cedar log grown on Vancouver island, and measures 35 feet tall and 6 feet wide.  It's situated a few blocks from the town's famous beach on Lake Winnipeg.

The Whispering Giant is a tribute to the Aboriginal people of Manitoba.  It's the 67th carving in a string of “Whispering Giants” that reaches across most of North America.

While it was early September when we visited, the fall colors were already setting in.
