Rebirth, the sculpture that will be unveiled for the anniversary. UN Photo
The UN, whose Palais des Nations Geneva home was originally home to the League of Nations, will open the historic building for a day on October 24, the anniversary of the UN's 1945 founding.
In addition to tours of the building, there will be a series of photo and art exhibitions, concerts, dance performances, sports activities and games—including a children's area. A highlight of the day will be the dedication of a sculpture by Italian Michelangelo Pistoletto, called Rebirth. Built of 193 stones, representing the UN's 193 members, it will be located in Arian Park, next to the headquarters.
The UN's Geneva offices hosts numbers of UN agencies dealing with peace, human rights, labor, well-being and more.
A free shuttle from Geneva's main rail station to the Palais will run all day from 11 am to 5 pm. More details of the program HERE.
