In what might be good news for airlines like Avelo, Breeze and Aha! that are building their businesses on serving underserved small cities, United Airlines is dropping service to thirteen small cities, and more may be on the list.
Each of the dropped cities had one route, connecting to either Chicago or Houston. United is blunt about dropping service to those cities, served through United Express carriers. A company statement basically said they're not making money: "Due to changes in the long-term sustainability of several of our regional routes, United will end service to eight cities at the start of the new year."
Each of the cities also has at least one flight with either Delta or American, but the new carriers may want to give the possibilities a look. The cities on the hit list are Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, Michigan; College Station, Texas; Columbia, Missouri; Mosinee, Wisconsin; Evansville, Indiana; Killeen–Fort Hood, Texas; Lansing, Michigan; Monroe, Louisiana; Pierre and Twin Falls, South Dakota and Twin Falls, Idaho.
