Tangier is a hilly town and you can’t see the sea from everywhere. But from the roof of the place I stayed, La Tangerina, at the northern edge of the medina, you get the best view of all. I think of it as the Mediterranean but it’s really the Strait of Gibraltar, or possibly the Atlantic, and on a clear day you can just make out the southernmost edge of Spain. It’s a beautiful view and a wonderful spot to hang out reading a novel in the shady alcove with fresh laundry flapping in the warm breeze overhead.
