Viking’s winter cruise will chase Northern Lights

Viking Ocean Cruises is sending one of its ships north into its namesake territory on a 13-day cruise focused on viewing the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, seen above in a photo from Gumbo contributor GarryRF.

The cruise, using Viking’s new Viking Sky, will take up to 930 passengers from London north to Bergen, Norway and beyond, with shore excursion included at each port, including Alta, Tromsø, and Stavanger.

Among the features of the cruise, which will first sail in January 2019, are visits to a Sami community near Alta; Tromsø, which features northern Norway’s largest concentration of traditional wooden houses, and a Viking age Archaeological Museum in Stavanger.
