Well-Written Words, England

 

As a former typographer and designer, my eyes are always open for 'lovely letters'—well-made signs and texts on the streets and buildings I pass.

Here's another selection, collected on a springtime trip to England. They vary from formal to a credible imitation of medieval, from 'old' to 'modern.' Above, two late 19th-century plaques on the city walls of York.

Below, two examples from the Art Nouveau era, both in London. Our title image is also from that period, adorning the Blackfriars Pub.
