This week's NY Times travel section has compiled data from several sources for a Travel section article. Some surprises...some not.

1. The most popular domestic trips...California, Texas, Florida, New York

2. International...by a huge margin, Mexico and Canada, then Britain, France Italy

3. As noted previously on Gumbo, Americans are taking less vacation time than ever

4. More than half of overseas travelers are from the eastern half of the country; they're closer to Europe

5. Top emerging interest areas for Americans: Burma/Myanmar and Cuba
