Winnipeg Folk Festival gets public funding

One of Canada's most popular music festivals is getting a sizable government grant to help it keep going and growing, and to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

The Canadian federal government is putting up a $250,000 investment from its Tourism Growth Program to support enhanced infrastructure and videos to promote and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2025.

The festival is held every summer in Birds Hill Provincial Park near Winnipeg. It was started in 1974 and has been growing ever since. Many genres of music can be heard, including Blues, Folk Rock, Celtic, Indie Folk, and more. Among well-known performers have been John Hiatt, Odetta, Passenger, and more.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
